Abstract

This study aims to help students to master the Visual Language in accordance with the implementation of the Secondary Education Curriculum Standard (KSSM) based on 21st Century Education. The development of the BSV Kit helps students to master the Visual Arts Language during the Art Appreciation session, at the same time helping the Visual Arts Education teachers as a student-centered self-learning method. The BSV Kit is a learning aid for Level 2 students to use during Art Appreciation sessions. The study was qualitatively conducted using a case study design of four classes in SMK Maran. Five samples were selected from each class based on the highest PBD achievement in each class. Two teachers of Visual Arts Education in two different streams were selected as respondents. Observations, interviews and visual recordings are the main methods of data collection. Observation methods were performed before and after the use of the BSV Kit. Structured interviews were conducted with 20 selected students from four classes for feedback about the use of the BSV Kit. A semi-structured interview was also conducted on two non option teachers who is teaching Visual Arts Education to get feedback on the benefits of using the BSV Kit. The findings show that the use of the BSV Kit can help pupils to confidently communicate using Visual Language during the Art Appreciation session in the classroom. Students know how to use the Visual Arts language adjustment correctly in their presentation. The findings also provide positive feedback from non-option teachers who is teaching Visual Arts Education. This BSV kit is very lightweight and easy to carry anywhere and most importantly is a learning aid for students and teachers alike. This study suggests that this BSV Kit is best used at every level in secondary school. Basically this BSV Kit helps students learn the basics of Visual Art Language, especially for the low achiever in Visual Arts language. It is hoped that the use of the BSV Kit will be welcomed by many art educators to encourage its use to students especially during the Art Appreciation session.
